Boito

"Where design sustains culture"

Boito begins where the boats of Odisha once set sail—carrying hand-loomed textiles across oceans. Today, the label revives that legacy through statement trench coats, jumpsuits, and dresses cut from lesser-known techniques from Odisha like Kapadaganda art and Kotpad handloom. Motifs of seashells, river turtles, and Bhujodi-inspired stripes honour the coastline and forests they come from, while clean, modern lines keep every piece unmistakably current. Working hand-in-hand with village weavers, Boito produces in small batches, pays fair wages, and lets artisans lead the creative rhythm—making only subtle tweaks for contemporary wear. The result is slow fashion with a pulse: garments that preserve endangered craft, empower communities, and let the fabric tell its own fearless story of heritage meeting now.

The Creation Process

Boito brings Odisha’s vibrant craft traditions alive in contemporary luxury clothing. Under the founder's lead, the brand thoughtfully blends heritage techniques like Sambalpuri ikat, intricate Bomkai weaving, and Kotpad’s earthy, natural-dyed cotton into timeless garments. With every stitch handmade by skilled artisans, Boito champions fair wages, community empowerment, and the careful revival of near-extinct crafts. Sustainability is central, evident in the use of natural materials and eco-conscious processes. Each garment is proudly showcased within its original community—connecting wearers directly to the story, the artisans, and the rich cultural tapestry of Odisha, creating heirlooms that hold meaning beyond fashion.

Meet Richa Maheshwari, the Designer

For Richa, the story of Boito is deeply personal — a journey of homecoming to her roots. After spending fifteen years at her corporate job, Richa took a sabbatical in June 2022 to reconnect with the indigenous culture of Odisha, her homeland. She travelled to the remotest parts of the state, meeting communities that welcomed her with warmth and shared stories through their textiles. This immersion led to the birth of Boito. Odisha is a land rich in textile heritage, where weaving is central to family life. Richa was captivated by the techniques, motifs, and artisans’ inherited skills. Determined to preserve these traditions, she founded Boito as a platform to empower Odisha’s textile artisans and keep the beauty of their craft alive.
