The Creation Process

The label puts fabric first—working closely with weavers and artisans across India to create clothing that is rooted in tradition. From handloom weaving and natural indigo dyeing to upcycled patchwork and block printing, each piece reflects deep craft engagement. Textiles are often designed in-house, giving every collection a distinct texture and story. Production is small-batch and waste-conscious, with leftover fabric turned into new garments or details. With strong ties to artisan clusters in Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, the brand keeps heritage alive: while staying committed to sustainability, quality, and community.

Meet Naushad Ali, the Designer

Naushad Ali grew up surrounded by textiles, with his father working as a textile trader, which sparked his early appreciation for handwoven fabrics and traditional techniques. Initially drawn to graphic design, he pursued fashion and textile design education, where he deepened his understanding of Indian crafts and sustainable fashion. After brief experience in the mainstream industry, he moved to Auroville, connecting closely with artisans and developing collaborative fabrics. This period laid the foundation for Studio Liam in 2014 and later his eponymous brand, where Naushad continues to merge ethical, low-impact production with traditional Indian textile techniques adapted for contemporary design.
