The Creation Process

Translate partners closely with skilled, sixth-generation Ikat weavers from Telangana to craft their unique collections. The collaboration is hands-on and creative-artisans and designers brainstorm together, blending traditional techniques with fresh, modern styles. This not only helps keep age-old weaving traditions alive but also ensures artisans are paid fairly and their communities thrive. The real magic lies in the artisans' expertise, which gives every Translate piece its authentic, handcrafted charm. The result? Gorgeous, one-of-a-kind designs for you, and meaningful support for India's weaving heritage.

Meet Vinita Passary, the Designer

Vinita's journey with Ikat is woven from memory and meaning. Raised in Orissa among the vibrant local weaves, and later enchanted by the Pochampally Ikats of Telangana, she found herself captivated by the loom's rhythms and the spirit of the craft. In 2006, she began working with artisanal brands, championing handcrafted fashion long before it became a movement. Eventually, that path led her to starting Translate in 2012, where she aims to create a dialogue between heritage and today - breathing contemporary life into every thread.
